Charyshsky District Museum of Local Lore

It was in the first years that the main collections were formed – natural fossils and taxidermy of animals, ethnographic and photographic documents. Since 1995, the archaeological collection has been formed and replenished. All artistic works were done by local artists V.V. Pastukhov and S.A. Latkin. The "Nature" department presents taxidermy of animals living in the Charyshsky district. The museum's art fund, including works by local artists, continues to be formed.

The museum's fund has five and a half thousand storage units. Various exhibits tell about the culture, life, and history of our Charyshsky district and the Altai Krai as a whole.

The most significant collections of the museum are ethnographic and historical-domestic. Materials on folk crafts and trades, photographic documents and negatives, and printed publications from the 1920s onwards have been collected.

The collection on the traditional Cossack way of life is particularly popular among visitors, as the village of Charyshskoye was once a stanitsa, founded as an outpost on the Cossack fortified line back in the 18th century. The collection of minerals and useful resources of the district is also interesting.

Unique part of the fund:

1. Collection of tools for spinning and weaving flax and hemp.
2. Collection of rushnyk towels from the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
3. Household coachman's bells from the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
4. Collection of ceramic kitchenware.
5. Domestic sewing machines from the late 19th century.
6. Collection of pre-revolutionary and Soviet samovars.
7. Collection of rare church books and other church utensils.
8. Collection of pre-revolutionary porcelain from the M.S. Kuznetsov factory.
9. Collection of items on the history of the Cossacks.
10. Documentary funds on the history of the village of Charyshskoye and the district as a whole.

The "Ancient History of the District" department was created thanks to the cooperation of the region's universities, the education system, and the district's culture. The museum is part of the "Introduction to Archaeology" educational program of supplementary education at the Charyshsky Center for Children's Creativity.

A new feature in the museum's work is an exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions and the sale of souvenirs by local craftsmen. To attract tourists, an exhibition and sale of souvenir products has been created in the museum.

The museum staff actively participates in archaeological expeditions conducted in the district. Based on the results of the research, part of the archaeological finds has been transferred to our museum.
