Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum

Historical Background

The All-Russian Memorial Museum-Reserve of V.M. Shukshin was founded on July 23, 1978, on the initiative of cosmonaut G.S. Titov. The institution is a cultural heritage site of regional significance and a non-profit organization whose main goal is to preserve and promote the creative legacy of the writer, director, and actor Vasily Makarovich Shukshin in his homeland.

Main sites of the Museum-Reserve:

  • Main Building: Houses storage facilities, exhibition and concert halls, and administrative offices.
  • Mother's House: The estate purchased by V.M. Shukshin for his mother, M.S. Kuksina. It features a memorial and household exposition.
  • School: The building where V.M. Shukshin studied and later worked. Today, it hosts the main literary exposition, "V.M. Shukshin. Life and Creativity. 1929-1974."
  • Childhood Home: The house where V.M. Shukshin spent his childhood, with the memorial exposition "Distant Winter Evenings."
  • Piket Mountain: A natural monument that annually hosts the final stage of the All-Russian festival "Shukshin's Days in Altai."
