Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum

The museum was founded on December 30, 1971. The founder of the Volchikhinsky District Museum of History and Local Lore is an amazing person, an Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation, an honorary resident of Volchikha village, a local historian, Vladimir Maksimovich Komarov. Vladimir Maksimovich's knowledge of the history of his district is vast. He has written several books on the history of the village and its people.

The first exhibits of the district history and local lore museum were a clay jug, a partisan pike from the Civil War, a soldier's pot, and a flask from the Great Patriotic War. The exhibits were kept in a large closet in the school cloakroom. The idea of preserving all these amazing exhibits for posterity came to a school history teacher, who shared it with his students. And the work began. They found antiques everywhere, and the main assistants in the search were, of course, the residents of the Volchikhinsky district and schoolchildren.

At first, from the autumn of 1971, the museum was located in the building of an abandoned office of Zagotskot, which the students, together with their beloved teacher, renovated themselves. But gradually the fund began to be replenished with exhibits that no longer fit in the small building. And then the people of Volchikha, all together, built a building on the central square of the village, the project of which was developed by the chief architect of the district, Leonid Ivanovich Kuzin, where our museum has been located since 1979.

Currently, the main fund of the museum has more than 10,000 exhibits. These include items of numismatics (a Kopek from the time of Peter I. It depicts a horseman with a spear in his hand, hence the name - kopek), archaeology, ethnography, weapons, documents, and rare books. Items of history and technology. Works of applied art, painting, sculpture. Most of the exhibits are in permanent expositions.

The museum has nine permanent departments:

  • "Life of Peasants in the 19th Century"
  • "The Civil War"
  • "Collectivization"
  • "The Great Patriotic War"
  • "Local Wars"
  • "Home Decor of the 40s–60s"
  • "Russian Germans"
  • "Cosmonautics"
  • "Applied Art of Fellow Villagers"

Unique collections of the museum: old icons, tools of peasants from the 18th–19th centuries, weapons from the Civil War (Berdan rifle, sawn-off shotguns, revolvers, pikes, machine gun belt, shell casings), numismatic items, trophies from the Great Patriotic War, toys of the peoples of the USSR, samovars, old bells, radio receivers, gramophone and phonographs from the 1920s–60s.
