Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum
The Altai District Museum of Local Lore is located in a building that is an architectural monument, the "Forester's House," which is over a hundred years old. The museum can be called truly a people's museum, as it was created by the residents of the district, who donated more than 10,000 exhibits to the museum's fund free of charge. Its history began with a collection of amateur enthusiasts. In early 1964, Evdokia Andreevna Tarasova, and a little later – Vitaly Yakovlevich Krechetov, history teachers, began work on collecting material on the history of the district, met with old-timers, and worked in the State Archives of the Altai Krai.
The Altai District Museum of Local Lore is included in the Small and Large Golden Ring of the Altai Krai and the cross-border tourist route "The Great Silk Road," which is why the number of visitors is growing year by year.
The museum has over 10,000 items in its main collection. The expositions and exhibitions, located in the halls, are constantly updated, which attracts guests and residents of the district.
The permanent exposition is located in 12 museum halls:
You will learn about the life of peasants in the early 20th century, visit Mefody in the Trading Shop, immerse yourself in the world of nature, remember your childhood in the "Soviet Period" hall, learn about the life and traditions of the Altai people in the "Altai Ail" hall, and get acquainted with the work of N.K. Roerich.
