Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum
The Soloneshensky District Museum of Local Lore was established in 1998 based on the history club of the district House of Pioneers.
The museum staff participates in speleological and ethnographic expeditions to the villages of the district (including extinct ones). Annually, since 2004, museum workers have been going to archaeological excavations at Denisova Cave and the Paleolithic site of Karama.
The significant replenishment of the museum's fund is facilitated by cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which has been conducting excavations in the Soloneshensky district since 1984.
In the vicinity of the museum, there are archaeological and natural monuments: Okladnikov Cave, Denisova Cave, waterfalls on the Shinok River, Karama.
Currently, the museum has five exhibition halls:
- Archaeological
- Ethnographic
- Military-Historical
- Hall of District History
- Exhibition Hall, which hosts exhibitions of fine and decorative-applied arts, folk art exhibitions, and photo exhibitions.
