Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum
The Akinfiy Demidov Museum of the History of Mining Development of the city of Zmeinogorsk, Zmeinogorsky District, Altai Krai, is located in the historical part of the city and has a long history. Starting with the museum building itself, which was built on the initiative of the head of the Kolyvan-Voskresensk plants, Pyotr Kozmich Frolov, in 1823–1825, and opened in 1827. This is the first building in Western Siberia built specifically for a museum, a monument of architecture of the first half of the 19th century, and a historical monument associated with the activities of P.K. Frolov.
The museum is one of the brightest and most unique tourist attractions, telling about the development of mining production in the 18th–19th centuries, and in the post-revolutionary period of the 20th century.
Permanent Expositions:
- The Archaeology Hall introduces archaeological finds on the territory of the Zmeinogorsk district. It presents the tools of ancient miners and their manufacturing process, paleontology, and rock paintings.
- The "Creators of New Technology in Serf Russia" Hall – the history of the development of mining production – features models, paintings, maps, sculptures, tools, and archival documents that tell about the life of miners, secret convicts, and creators of new technology in serf Russia.
- In the Mineralogy Hall, you can see samples of ore deposits, non-metallic minerals, ornamental stones, and products made from them by the Kolyvan stone-cutting factory.
Exhibits of the open-air museum "Mining Equipment of the 20th–21st centuries":
- Loader, mine car, electric locomotive, mine telephone, perforator – installed in 2008–2009.
- Lokomobil, rollers for threshing grain, drive wheel, memorial plaques.
