Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum
The history of the Yegoryevsky Museum of History and Local Lore goes back to the past; it began its work on the basis of the Lebyazhinskaya Forest Experimental Station, which was opened in January 1930. Here is an entry about the birth of the experimental station, made in 1931 in the Siberian Soviet Encyclopedia on p. 31: "...The Lebyazhinskaya Zonal Experimental Station is called to serve the needs of the forestry of the forest-steppe zone of the West Siberian Krai with research work... The LZLOS was established in 1930 as a branch of the Siberian Regional Forest Experimental Station..."
"Not far from Lake Lebyazhye stands a small one-story building. This house contains the best of the plant and animal world of the Barnaul ribbon forests: collections of insects, birds, taxidermy of moose, Siberian roe deer, and forest inhabitants. The museum was founded in the 30s..." - these are lines from the journal Forest Management No. 12 for 1964. The initiators of the museum's creation at the Lebyazhinskaya ZonLOS in 1932 were Siberian foresters: N.N. Yegorov, S.S. Golubinsky, I.Yu. Myasoed. For more than two decades, E.I. Mironyuk headed the forest experimental station.
In 1958, the Lebyazhinskaya ZONLOS was reorganized into the Altai Forest and Agroforestry Experimental Station and moved to the village of Klyuchi in the Klyuchevsky District. The museum was transferred to the Lebyazhinsky Forestry. Half of the exhibits were moved from the museum to Kulunda. The fate of the museum was uncertain.
Flipping through the guestbook of past years, we see that people need the museum, we read: "1959. We express deep gratitude to the creators of the museum and comrade Kostrovsky, who selflessly took on the work from lecturer-curator to cleaner of the museum... It is a pity that the museum is in the position of a neglected child." Another review: "1961. We visited the museum of the Lebyazhinsky Forestry. We believe that this is the only people's museum in the Altai Krai, which is a visual means of agitation and bringing forest knowledge to the masses... Signature: Professor of the Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences S. Sokolov, Professor of the Biological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences G. Krylov."
The popularity of the forest museum is indicated by the geography of its visitors. It was visited by students from the villages of Charysh, Klyuchi, Mikhailovka, the city of Zmeinogorsk, and even some regions of Kazakhstan. Over its half-century of existence, it has been visited by tens of thousands of people.
In 1977, the museum had its second birth. On the initiative of the Yegoryevsky District Committee of the CPSU, with the active participation of the residents of the district center, the village of Novoegoryevskoye, and the workers of the SMU, a new two-story brick building was constructed and commissioned for the museum. All the exhibits of the forest museum were moved to the new building.
In 1979, the museum was registered with the state as a branch of the Altai State Museum of History and Local Lore. In 1995, by order No. 55 of May 17, 1995, "On the abolition of the status of branches of regional museums," the museum received the status of a municipal museum. In the village of Srosty, in the building of a former kindergarten, a department of the museum "The Emergence and Development of the village of Srosty" operates. On January 1, 2006, the museum became a municipal cultural institution and, as required, has its own Charter and Regulations.
The research staff began not only to conduct experimental work in forestry but also to collect various exhibits of flora and fauna, concentrating them in the premises of the forest museum of the Lebyazhinsky Forestry. They collected insect specimens, and later, taxidermy of animals, birds, and rodents inhabiting the forests and steppes of the Yegoryevsky District were made. Great credit for the museum having taxidermy of almost all animals and birds inhabiting the ribbon forests and steppes belongs to the taxidermists F.V. Ratnikov and E.A. Khovanov, who were engaged in their creation. Samples of their work were presented in the late 70s at the regional exhibition of national economic achievements in Barnaul and at the regional museum of local lore.
During its existence, the museum's fund has been significantly enriched. Now it includes not only representatives of the flora and fauna of the ribbon forests. As of March 30, 2018, the museum has 15,628 units in the main fund and 6,446 units in the scientific-auxiliary fund.
